Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee is available to consult with other health care organizations when they face an ethical dilemma.

Avow Hospice provides a community ethics review and case consultation service to health care providers in Collier County. This committee was formed to assist health care providers facing situations with patients and families where values, decisions and wishes may be in conflict.

Members of our Ethics Committee include our Medical Director, representatives from our executive, management, clinical, bereavement and social work teams, as well as members of the community.

Examples of situations that may benefit from an Ethics Committee consultation may include:

  • After a conversation with a physician and care team, the patient/family is still having difficulty deciding what to do
  • When there is a difference of opinion between the health care team and the patient or decision-maker
  • When there is a difference of opinion among the health care team members
  • When there is a difference of opinion among family members
  • When there is a decision to be made about withdrawing or withholding treatment, nutrition or hydration

For more information on the Ethics Committee and guidance on how to request a consultation, send a message to info@avowhsopice.org.
